Knowing of classification of flask, utility, use method and matters needing attention

One. flask classification

Commonly used flask has round bottom flask, flat bottom flask and distillation flask

Round bottom flask

Round bottom flask is a transparent glass flask with a spherical bottom. It is a commonly used heating and reaction vessel in chemical experiments. Use flasks for large amounts of liquid and test tubes for small amounts.

Flat bottom flask

Flat bottom flask because of the flat bottom, when heating will be heated uneven, so generally not used as a heating reactor, and flat bottom flask is convenient to hold the container commonly used for reaction without heating.

Distillation flask

A glass vessel used for liquid distillation or fractionation. It is often used with condensing pipe, liquid receiving pipe and liquid receiving device. Gas generator can also be assembled.

Two.The main use

1. Liquid-solid reactor or liquid-to-liquid reactor.

2. Assemble gas reaction generator (normal temperature, heating).

3. Distillate or fractionate liquids using a distillation flask, which is a flask with a branch pipe.

Three.The main differences

1. They look different

Round bottom flask: device of thin glass tubes with no slight downward protrusion at the neck of the bottle. The neck of the bottle is a straight pipe.

Flat bottom flask: The difference between a flat bottom and a round bottom flask is that the bottom is flat.

Distilling flask: a thin glass tube extending slightly downward at the neck of the bottle, used to drain the vapors, since it is needed for distilling liquids. In addition to the distillation flask heating needs to plug the bottle mouth, must be another tube out.

2. Different uses

Round bottom flask: can be heated for a long time, but must be lined with asbestos mesh. The round-bottomed flask can be used to heat large amounts of liquid in a sealed way, and can also be used for fountain experiments.

Distillation flask: Side tube on neck, used chiefly in distillation operations.

Flask: Flask used as a liquid reaction vessel that does not require heating because it is easily stabilized on a horizontal platform.

Four, Use method

(1) Common characteristics

1  Should be placed on the asbestos net heating, so that it is heated evenly; When heating, the outer wall of the flask should be free of water droplets.

2  Flask can not be used for a long time to heat.

3  When not heated, if the flat-bottomed flask is used as the reaction container, there is no need to fix it with an iron frame.

(2) personality

1. Round-bottomed flask

(1) The bottom thickness of the round bottom flask is uniform, and there is no edge, which can be used for long time strong heat use.

(2) When heating, the flask should be placed on an asbestos net and cannot be heated directly by flame.

(3) After the completion of the experiment, if there is a catheter, the catheter shall be removed first to prevent backflow, and then the heat source shall be removed, and after static cooling, the waste liquid shall be treated and washed.

(4) When the flask is heated, the asbestos net should be padded, which should not exceed 1/2 of the volume of the flask (for fear that too much solution is easy to splash out when boiling or the pressure in the flask is too high and the flask explodes).

2. Distill flasks

(1) to pad asbestos net when heating, can also be heated with other hot bath. When heating, the liquid volume should not exceed 2/3 of the volume, not less than 1/3 of the volume.

(2) When installing accessories (such as thermometers, etc.), appropriate rubber plugs should be selected, and special attention should be paid to checking whether the air tightness is good.

(3) it is best to add a small amount of zeolite (or broken porcelain) at the bottom of the bottle in advance when distillation, in order to prevent boiling.

(4) when heating should be placed on the asbestos net, so that it is heated evenly.

(5) After distillation, the piston must be closed first and then stop heating to prevent suction.

(6) The position of the mercury ball of the thermometer during distillation should be flush with the lower edge of the branch pipe mouth of the distillation flask.

Five,Matters needing attention

1. Injected liquid shall not exceed 2/3 of its volume and not less than 1/3 of its volume.

2. When heating, use asbestos mesh to heat evenly.

3. Distillation or fractionation should be used with rubber plug, catheter, condenser, etc.
